Painting at Cobblestone Springs, May 17-18

Watercolor Workshops with Kristin Malone
Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, 2024
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., $50 per day

These two days in May are designed for those new to watercolor as well as for those who want to continue painting in watercolor at Cobblestone Springs.

“Growth Spurt,” a painting Kristin Malone did in one of her classes at Cobblestone, chosen for a juried exhibit last fall.

DAY ONE will include instruction in watercolor with a focus on washes and brushstrokes.  Attention will be given to beginning a painting, simplifying the subject, combining hard and soft edges, and creating strong composition. Participants with watercolor experience will be invited to continue either with some of the exercises or beginning new paintings early in the session. Those new to watercolor will receive as much or as little information as they are looking for to help them get started.

DAY TWO will be similar, but those who are working a second day at Cobblestone will have the opportunity to continue painting(s) begun the day before.

Participants are invited to bring photos they have taken of any subject matter that has significance to them. Attempting to capture the feelings the photos evoke will be more important than trying to copy the two-dimensional image. Photos are not necessary, however, as this is our last opportunity to paint views inside and out of this historic cobblestone house and its gardens and property.

One-on-one instruction and assistance will be available throughout both days, and time will be set aside for the group to share, offer feedback, and enjoy one another’s work.

Please contact cobblestonespringsrc@gmail.com to register. A supply list will be sent after registration. Efforts will be made to keep this minimal and some materials will be available for shared use. Good paper is important. Some practice paper will be provided and various sizes of Arches 140# cold press paper can be purchased those days.

Both programs for this weekend with one overnight stay in the mansion are available for $150. Please bring your own lunch or plan to join a group order from Tabora’s Deli. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.
