Even More Midrashim, with Leslie Schwartz
11 a.m. to Noon, via Zoom

a reconstructed Torah, from Wikiwand.

Jews have been called, “The People of the Book.” Our primary book, the Torah (the Five Books of Moses), is a source of inspiration and connection. It can also be intriguingly and frustratingly incomplete.

Midrash is the attempt to fill in the gaps in the Torah – to provide a deeper “backstory” to the biblical narratives — and while doing so, extract additional meaning and lessons. We will closely study several midrashim (plural, midrash) and see what both the rabbis of the Talmudic era, and we of the present day, can learn from them.

The facilitator for these sessions is Leslie Schwartz, Ph.D. Coming from a liberal Jewish tradition, Leslie’s approach to ancient Jewish texts emphasizes her admiration of their ultimate goal – to make our own lives holy through study, questioning, awe, and gratitude.
